You Too Can Make A Difference

Educating the girl child has been described as the best investment in a country’s national development as it has enormous benefits not just for her family but also for the community at large.
Literature has consistently shown that compared to her non educated counterparts, an educated woman usually reported more positive maternal health outcomes as well as being able to properly raised healthy and well-nourished children. Furthermore, there is a strong link between educational attainment and potential earnings as “one extra year of schooling increases lifetime earnings by up to an estimated 10%” and women with higher educational qualifications are more likely to be in formal wage employment than those with only primary schooling . Finally, girls’ education significantly reduces social disparities, as well as spurs positive effects on social and economic development for generations to come.
Unfortunately, all over Nigeria, like in most developing nations of the world, the fate of women and children are usually very unpredictable especially with regards to obtaining a formal education, accessing adequate healthcare services and other basic necessities for a healthy and productive life.
This situation is unfortunately worsened for the female gender who often experience discrimination in terms of obtaining formal educational as well as achieving financial independence. Moreover, with a lack of funding for women’s education in Nigeria beyond the basic primary school level. Several families also only consider funding the education of the male gender as a worthier enterprise compared to educating a female in some regions of the country (especially in some Northern States). Thus further worsening the chances of educating the female gender past the basic primary school education.
GET International therefore aligns with the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs) of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. We achieve this through several approaches and program/activities including community empowerment schemes; providing social and legal support for women & children; and provision of funding & scholarships for post primary education attainment.

“OUR GOAL IS TO HELP EVERY GIRL CHILD ACTUALIZE HER DREAMS OF A PROPER EDUCATION”

To help every deprived Nigerian girl child actualize her dreams of a proper education and financial independence.

To build effective collaborative relationships with both local & international organizations to identify, train and support uneducated and deprived young females in different vulnerable communities in Nigeria and other African nations.

We believe that every woman & child should have equitable access to quality education; and deserves a healthy environment that harnesses his or her potential to reach its maximum levels.

Our organization works in four major thematic areas:
1. Education: We strive to provide educational support for children and young women in difficult situations unable to otherwise afford a formal education or get access to quality education beyond the basic primary school levels. Our various initiatives include provision of educational materials, and funding & scholarships for post primary education attainment.

2. Economic empowerment: We believe that it is only women that are empowered that can drive and inspire human development. Unfortunately, more than half of the women in developing nations live in a state of oppression and suppression
Empowering young women especially those in very vulnerable positions is at the heart of what we do. We help these women regain their lost voices as well as seek justice. Our support ranges from financial support, business trainings and mentorship. These efforts also make these women achieve some level of independence thus enabling them to support themselves and their families financially and to look for fulfilment in their daily lives.

3. Social support & justice:Seeking and getting justice is usually a difficult feat to achieve by many women in many low income settings. The pervasiveness of gender inequality, coupled with a weak legal system that favors the male gender, makes getting justice a herculean task. We help these women regain their lost voices as well as seek justice through legal support and advocacy for the cause of women.

4. Talent Development: We give young people the practical and emotional support to help them develop and harness their skills and talents in a profitable and enterprising manner. We also provide a skill acquisition and startup support to help them jumpstart their careers or get a gainful employment.

CHILDREN

We strive to provide children at all levels, from infancy, through toddlers and teen-age the requisite practical and emotional support they need to help them develop the skills they need to survive and thrive in life.

We understand that children at various stages in life need different approaches to helping them grow into responsible adults.  At GET, we employ different training/intervention strategies in reaching these children, as well as provide them that unique opportunity and platforms to harness their skills.

We support children and young people in vulnerable conditions especially those in internally displaced camps (IDPs), refugee camps and orphanage homes both within and outside Nigeria. Our goal is to provide educational and psychosocial support services, helping them build a happy & healthy life while in these settings; as well as to prepare them and help them settle-in for life outside when they eventually leave these settings.

We provide support for physically challenged children and their families by helping them get into education, training and employment.

We also provide special nutritional intervention support for communities with malnourished children.

We work closely with other development partners as well as with schools, education welfare, children’s social care services and the government to assist every child in need of quality education.

WOMEN

We work with and support young women and girls across the country through educational and empowerment initiatives to better equip them with the tools needed to thrive in a competitive and male dominated world.

Women are the bedrock of any society, thus empowering women is a solid step forward in promoting development.

We work with and support young teenage mothers in vulnerable and difficult situations.

We have several projects targeted at women at all levels, including rural women, women in difficult situations such as disaster prone regions, women in Internally Displaced Persons camps, refugee women etc.

Our approach in very inclusive and we engage these women in all our design and implementation phases of our various projects to ensure that our programs meet the specific needs of these women.

Love: At GET, we provide assistance to the women and children especially young girls that we encounter in need of assistance regardless of race, creed or nationality. At the very heart of our operations, the values of love guide all our intentions and actions, processes and deliverables.

Equity: At GET, we vehemently abhor partiality and favoritism hence we strive to achieve equity in dealing with the many persons we encounter. We have also employed schemes and quality control checks that help us engage with people in a very transparent and open manner.

Service: At GET, we are very service oriented. We also believe in rendering our services passionately, selflessly and in ways that benefits the general population and the world at large. Furthermore, our programs are designed in such a way that each person’s experience/encounter with GET is unique, customized and special.

Collaboration: We believe in synergistic and mutually benefiting relationships and thus work together with individuals, organizations and funders whose vision aligns with ours to improve the lives of the women and children we reach within the African continent.

We use a combination of different approaches to reach out to our target beneficiaries. Our goal in every of the approach we adopt strives to ensure efficiency and sustainability of the results achieved through the programs and activities we implement. Our core activities cover a number of areas including sustainable development programs; targeted educational projects and scholarships, empowerment schemes/trainings, humanitarian assistance in disasters/conflicts and advocacy for the rights of women & children.
